Lesson Plan

  • Discuss with students the different cultures that are part of Mexico's history. Point out that those cultures heavily influenced Mexican art.
  • Invite students to explore the resource links below. Then brainstorm with all students comparisons of art from the pre-Hispanic period and art created after the Spanish conquest.
  • Ask students to choose an artwork and give a brief oral report about its artist, historical period and significance. Ensure that as a class, students cover the full timeline of Mexican art history.
Extension:

Assessment
