Lesson Plan

  • Review any previous discussions about the presidential inauguration. Discuss the meaning of the term Oath of Office. Explain that Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution of the United States stipulates that before becoming president, the president-elect must take a special oath. (See The Constitution of the United States: Transcription.)
  • Provide each student with a copy of the Education World teaching master 'I Do Solemnly Swear'. Have students complete the work sheet, using a print or an online dictionary, such as Dictionary.com.

Assessment

Evaluate students' work sheet answers.

Answer Key.
