Presidential Timeline

Brief Description

Students create a time line about the presidents of the United States.

Objectives

Students sequence historical events in chronological order and demonstrate research skills using the Internet and/or library sources.

Lesson Plan

• Discuss the meaning of the term time line. Show students examples of time lines from school texts and library or online sources.
• Divide the class into small groups. Have students create time lines about the U.S. presidents. Students might use library sources or these suggested Web sites:

  The Internet Public Library POTUS: Presidents of the United States

  Variation: Have students create time lines of the lives of individual presidents.

  Assessment

  Evaluate students' time lines and presentations.
