Lesson Plan
- Before the lesson, make a sample of a gift certificate like one offered by stores. If you have a computer with Microsoft Publisher or another design program, create a sample following the directions on the program.
- Begin the lesson by asking students to define the term gift certificate. Ask why stores offer gift certificates.
- Tell students that they are going to make gift certificates in which they will offer to do something special for a family member, neighbor, or friend. Give examples such as washing the car, cooking a meal for the family, baby-sitting, or shopping for an elderly neighbor. Solicit other examples from students.
- Distribute the materials. Tell students to follow the sample to create their certificates.
- Remind students to write drafts of their thoughts on paper before putting gift ideas on the certificates. Encourage creativity in decorating the certificates.
Assessment
Observe students' participation. Evaluate students' certificates.
