Split into Grade Levels

"I'm a coordinator for the gifted program. I work with students and have administrative duties as well. I receive the Education Site Reviews Newsletter, and visit the sites it lists every week.

"EdWorld would be better organized for me if the lessons were split into different grade levels, so I knew where to focus my attentions. Some of my students' favorite lessons have come from your site."

Dear Linda,

Each week, dozens of new articles and features are added to Education World. You have the right idea by signing up for our newsletters! We have always said that the best way to keep up with all the latest additions to our site and other timely lesson ideas is to sign up for one or more of our nine free newsletters.

As for organizing our lessons by grade, the short answer is: Yes! We want to make our lesson planning content searchable by grade level. We have talked many times about creating a special "lesson planning search engine" that would sort all lesson plans by grade, subject, keyword… For now, this one is tricky. See our answers to the comments about color-coding and about re-finding content.

However, remember that the basic unit of our lesson planning content is a themed article that brings together usually 5, and sometimes as many as 10, lesson plans -- each of which might be appropriate for several grades, depending on the students and the local curriculum you're working with. Those themed lessons are pretty easy to find; just type the theme into our search engine. Another great page where you can see our lesson planning content arrayed in various ways (unfortunately, no, not by grade), is our Lesson Planning Archives page. There you can see our themed lesson planning articles by topic, as well as a sidebar that can guide you to our many unique features, such as The Writing Bug, our Scavenger Hunts, our 5-Minute Fillers, our Template Library, our Month of Fun calendars, and much more.

In addition, some of our lesson planning content is already organized by grade. See the Work Sheet Library, for example.

That said, we know it is important that we keep talking about, and working toward, making our lessons more easily searchable.
