International Teachers

"Teaching in a small international school aboard a ship, I am very limited by the resources that are available to me. Thankfully, I have reliable and consistent Internet access. I use EdWorld to stay updated.

"Because you do have many international visitors, perhaps you should consider a diary from an international teacher?

"I am really grateful for my access to EdWorld. I think my teaching experience on board would be quite different and much more frustrating without it."

Dear Jolie,

We'd be delighted to have an international teacher's diary: And you mentioned having some spare time between ports? Seriously, we will put this in our "ideas" folder for consideration as we plan for next school year.

But, what's the big deal, you might ask: Why not just get somebody to write it? Finding the "write" diarist or writer for any feature is not an easy proposition. We search long and hard for writers who can engage readers and who have things to say. Since we are a small editorial team -- and since we pump such a large quantity of new content onto the site each week -- we must carefully screen potential writers. Most all our contributors, diarists, and columnists are paid. While they don't rake in big sums, the fact we provide payment helps us find the best possible talent around.

Maybe this is as good a spot as any to share Education World's editorial mantra. These are the words we hum each day as we produce new content for the site:

Practical, practical, practical...

If it isn't practical -- if educators don't learn something new from each article we post, or find something practical that they can use tomorrow in their classrooms -- then we have failed our readers.

Those simple words are the words that guide us as we search for feature contributors too. If we are to spend time editing it, each feature must add something special to the mix of features that comprise EdWorld.

All that said, yes, keep on looking at EdWorld, and you may very well find teaching stories from distant lands this time next year!
