Subject:  Infomation Literacy

State:  VA

What or who inspired you to become a teacher?

My grade 12 English teacher (with whom I currently have the pleasure of working) fired my desire to teach. From her, I learned the excitement of learning a new concept and the joy of the "a-ha" moment.

How are things different for you now, compared to when you first started teaching?

When I began teaching, technology was really in its infancy. We didn't have the "bells and whistles" that we do now to make a lesson more interesting. Back then, we were part teacher, part entertainer in order to catch and keep the students' attention.

What advice would you give to a new or struggling teacher?

The best advice that I can give to a new or struggling teacher is to get to know your students. If they know that you WANT to know about them and their lives, they will try much harder in your class.

My best day in the classroom was when…

My absolute best days in my classroom occur when students tell me how much fun they had in class.

The best compliment I ever received was...

The best compliment that I have ever received from a parent was to be requested as the teacher when their next child came to my grade level.

What's your favorite part of the school year?

My favorite part of the school year is the beginning. I love the excitement of meeting new students and starting on the educational journey with them.
