Each week, designate a "classroom secretary" who will record the page numbers, notes, and homework
from each class period in a notebook that stays in the room. If a student is absent or simply
unclear about an assignment, the notebook and the "secretary" are great resources and the first
stop before presenting questions to the teacher. Other responsibilities for the classroom secretary
include passing out papers and portfolios, gathering them after class, noting where class novel
readings end, and coming to the aid of new students.
