Instead of designing a single homework activity, provide three options that require similar understanding of the material, and permit students to choose from them. To compare versions of the story of Cinderella, for example, students might
document similarities and differences in a Venn diagram;
write a review that describes why one version is more effective than the other; or
design a book jacket for each story that highlights its features.
For more involved at-home projects, create a chart of varied activities that allow students to show mastery while exercising their creativity.
