Songs to Brighten
A Teacher's Day

Share

Another long school year is drawing to a close. Students sights long have been set on June and the warm ocean of summer that awaits them. But teachers too have been counting the days. As I pass bleary-eyed colleagues in the hall, I see silent mutual acknowledgement: were almost there.

Summer Is Comin My Way

(Sung to the tune of Oh, What a Beautiful Morning )

The last day of school -- another year of learning, of challenging, of being challenged, of headaches, of heartaches, of soaring moments of achievement, of everything we are as a school, all of that once again comes to its ceremonial ending. Bittersweet as it might be, this is a day worth singing about; a day that cries out for a rousing song that teachers can pour their hearts into. What a beautiful morning! What a beautiful day!

Oh, the end of the tunnels in sight now;
We can see the proverbial light now,
A fine graduation with hugs and goodbyes, And now it is time to cash in on our prize.

Oh, what a beautiful mornin',
Oh, what a beautiful day,
I got a beautiful feelin'
Summer is comin my way.

I can sleep a bit later on Monday,
I can plan for myself just a fun day,
I dont have to think of a lesson or two,
I dont have to lead a semester review.

Oh, what a beautiful mornin',
Oh, what a beautiful day.
I got a beautiful feelin'
Summer is comin my way.

No more urgent reminders on e-mail,
No more checking those comments for details,
No meetings, no trips, no reports to look through,
With eight weeks of summer, just what will we do?

Oh, what a beautiful mornin',
Oh, what a beautiful day.
I got a beautiful feelin'
Summer is comin my way.

No more carefully taking attendance,
Time to bask in our new independence,
The pressure is off, now our spirits can soar,
I dont have to monitor lunch any more!

Oh, what a beautiful mornin',
Oh, what a beautiful day,
I got a beautiful feelin'
Summer is comin my way.
Oh, what a beautiful day!
