Book Report Makeover: An Acrostic PoemEach week, Education World offers a new idea to help you "make over" boring book report formats. If you're looking for a way to spice up book reports -- and truly engage students in reading -- you've come to the right place. Check out this week's makeover idea
Students demonstrate their understanding of a book by writing an acrostic poem.
Have students write the letters of the title of a recently read book in a column going down the page. Explain to students that they should use the names of objects, events, or ideas from that book to complete each line. Point out that each line must begin with the letter of the book title at the beginning of that line and all the lines together should form a poem. Encourage students to illustrate their completed poems.
