Book Report Makeover: Paint a Mental ImageEach week, Education World offers a new idea to help you "make over" boring book report formats. If you're looking for a way to spice up book reports -- and truly engage students in reading -- you've come to the right place. Check out this week's makeover idea
Use this book report activity to supplement a lesson in descriptive prose writing.
Have each student read aloud the best example of descriptive prose found in a book he or she is reading. Students also should write a paragraph explaining why the excerpt is a particularly good example of descriptive prose. Encourage students to include in their paragraphs some of the adjectives the book's author has used to set the scene.
