Overview: Students work individually or in teams to investigate information about bicycle safety. Each student or team uses the information to teach a friend about the importance of wearing a helmet and following other safety rules when riding a bicycle. Students must complete several tasks, including writing an article on bicycle safety and helmet use; creating a poster related to bicycle safety; developing a chart or diagram on bicycle accidents and death rates; visiting local bicycle shops to find out if helmet prices meet bicycle industry standards. While completing the activities, students keep a journal of their work and answer questions about bicycle safety. Students conclude the project by responding to several reflective questions about the activity.
