Name Voyager
By Alma Row
I don’t think there’s a student who doesn’t enjoy learning about his or her name. Name Voyager is a site that helps create a math connection with the study of names by providing a graph of any name you enter at the blinking cursor. After you enter a name, the site displays the popularity of the name for girls in pink and boys in blue for the years spanning the 1890s to the present by showing the number per million of babies given that name. As you scroll across the graph, Name Voyager also displays the ranking for that name at various points in the graph. My name peaked in the 1890s -- which is no surprise to me!
