The iPhone, by all measures, is a revolutionary device. With more and more educators jumping on the iOS bandwagon, developers are coming up with free and low-cost apps designed specifically for education. EdWorld has combed through recent teacher-friendly apps and singled out a few of the most noteworthy.
TeacherPal -TeacherPal is a personal organizer for teachers. It enables users to organize classes and students. Its simple and intuitive interface enables teachers to track attendance, grades and student behavior.
The app provides a level of specificity that others don’t. For example, TeacherPal provides the designation “Tardy” in addition to the standard “Present” and “Absent.” Users can also keep track of things like student allergies. With respect to lessons, the interface provides a method for adding notes on the fly, without having to open the lesson plan on a computer.

Evernote -Evernote is an easy-to-use app that helps users remember everything across all of the devices they use. The app allows educators to stay organized, save ideas and improve productivity. Evernote also lets users take notes (which are later searchable), capture photos, create to-do lists and record voice reminders.
Another great feature is Evernote’s collaboration capability, which allows educators to share lesson plans and other documents.

iStudiesPro –Teachers can take charge of their schedules with iStudiez Pro. The app features easy navigation to courses and lectures. Users can track tasks and deadlines, plan homework, arrange assignments and much more. The unique built-in planner lets users input and easily manage all types of schedules including classic, alternating (A & B weeks), rotating and block schedule.
Data loss is not a problem with iStudiez Pro, as a backup option takes the fear out of device malfunction. User data can be sent to an e-mail address by tapping just one button. This app has won several awards including the 2009 Best App in the education category.

School & Stuff, Grades and Timetables - The School & Stuff application was designed for parents as well as teachers. The app allows users to easily monitor the progress of students in junior high or high school, in addition to providing overviews of their schedules.
A nice feature allows teachers to input student grades as both traditional letters (A, B, C, etc.) or as percentages (100, 95, 82, etc.). Both teachers and parents can track individual student progress in real time, allowing intervention before a student falls too far behind.
