Education World® wishes everyone a Happy New Year!

This week, Education World helps you to ring in the new year with a handful of new stories!

  • You might celebrate the start of the new year with an exploration of calendars used throughout the world. (Students might even pick their favorite elements from the world's calendars to create their own "perfect" calendars!)
  • Or you might welcome back your students to the classroom with a new addition -- a timeline! (And "weeks" of activities to go along with it!)
  • While you're at it, be sure to check out a new book, a bio about the life of Scottish poet Robert Burns. The new book is called -- of course! -- Auld Lang Syne.
  • Or perhaps you'll even begin the new year by applying for a fellowship to study Japan's schools -- in Japan! -- with 599 other U.S. teachers!

Just click on the story title below and 1998 will be off to a great start!

And be sure to watch in the weeks ahead as Education World keeps you up to date with the latest education news and in-depth stories on hot education topics. Coming up -- a two-part exploration of bilingual education and a look at a special program that provides all students with laptop computers for use at school and at home.

And of course you'll continue to find all the cross-grade, cross-curriculum activities that you've come to expect of Education World! In the weeks ahead we'll be providing lesson plans for classroom explorations of El Nino, Martin Luther King, the Winter Olympic Games, and much more!

Cheers! Here's to a great '98!
