June Jubilee!

In June, kids say good-bye to teachers and classmates and look forward to summer vacation. They celebrate Father's Day and Flag Day. Following are Education World's lesson plans and resources to help you play your June Jubilee!

FLAG DAY

  • Raise the Flag Day (Awareness) in Your Class!
Education World salutes Flag Day with five lessons that teach about the history of the flag, the proper way to fold the U.S. flag, and more. The fifth lesson challenges students to search for the truth about Betsy Ross; did she really create the first American flag?

  • Resources, Lessons, and Activities for Flag Day
Education World's special Flag Day page has activities, lessons, recipes, crafts, and more resources to help you teach about this symbol of the United States.

FATHER'S DAY

  • Father's Day Holiday Center
Education World salutes the importance of fathers with inspiring articles, craft ideas, links to special Father's Day sites, and much more.

END OF SCHOOL

  • Making the Most of the Dreaded End-of-School Days
"No more pencils, no more books; no more ..." No more time? The last days of school may be upon us and your students may already be chanting the traditional end-of-school cheer, but that doesn't mean that you have to succumb to the temptation to start summer early. Why throw away the last few precious days? Instead, blow your students away with some cool end-of-year activities that combine fun and learning.

  • Summer Reading Lists Abound on the Web!
Education World surveys some of the best children's summer reading lists on the Web. You'll find an overview of great lists that you or your school's staff might use to create your own summer reading program.

  • Summer Reading Activities
A few summers ago, Education World and Barnes and Noble joined forces to present a HOT, HOT summer reading program. Thanks to our readers' contributions, we have gathered summer reading lists by grade, along with reviews of new books, interviews with favorite authors, and lots of ideas for summer projects to extend reading -- projects for kids to do with friends or on their own and projects for families to do together!

SUMMER

  • Summer
Summer is here! "Enlighten" your students with facts about the sun and "heat up" your classroom with fantastic lesson plans and activities that celebrate summer. Ed World's special summer theme page provides lots of ideas for summer crafts, recipes, games, and fun!
