Assistive Technology

Assistive technology or assistive devices include anything that disabled children (or adults) can use to help them learn and function more effectively. More than 4,000 assistive technologies have been designed for students and teachers, according to some estimates. Those devices include everything from wheelchairs to a wide assortment of high-tech tools, including hearing aids, Braille note-taking devices, and voice recognition software.

While assistive technology plays an important role in helping students learn, it is most effective when educators understand how the devices operate.
