When phones were installed in individual classrooms in her school, teacher Donna Kelley decided to put hers to good use. Kelley and her students discussed what high quality, standard, and substandard work looked like and when students turned in work that was of high quality she might write at the top of the page Brag Call. Students lived to earn the privilege of using the classroom telephone to call a parent to brag about their success. Kelley says "brag calls" promoted effective parent-teacher communication. Parents felt validated, too, she added.
