At the beginning of the school year, kindergarten teacher Martha Richardson asks each child to bring to school a 24-exposure disposable camera. Throughout the year, Richardson takes photos of the children participating in classroom activities, including singing, reading, playing, and working on the computer, and at such events as holiday parties and school performances. If a child creates something he or she is particularly proud of, Richardson photographs that too. When a camera runs out of film, Richardson sends it home, so parents can develop the film. "The children love it," says Richardson, who supplies a camera for any child who cannot afford one. "They want me to take their pictures all of the time."
