Eight Lesson Ideas for Winnie-the-Pooh Day

January 18 marks Winnie-the-Pooh Day, which also happens to be A.A. Milne's birthday, the man behind one of the most lovable bears in history. Education World has gathered a list of resources teachers can use to celebrate Milne's birthday and the creation of Winnie-the-Pooh.

  1. Just Pooh: With this website, teachers can access a biography of A.A. Milne as well as background information on all of the characters. The site also offers quizzes, games, video clips, recipes, and more. Teachers can also access short stories they can read with the class.
  2. "The Case of the Missing Tail": In this activity provided by Topher's Castle, students will be able to participate in an interactive story where they help Winnie-the-Pooh find Eeyore's tail. If the students successfully find Eeyore's tail, they will be given an award.
  3. Winnie-the-Pooh: Every-Day Edit: With this every-day edit provided by Education World, students can read about the significance of January 18 and then use their grammatical skills to find ten errors in capitalization, punctuation, and spelling.
  4. Winnie-the-Pooh Character 'Poohsonality' Test: Students can take a "poohsonality" test and see which Winnie the Pooh character they are most like.

  • Invite a principal, grandparent, superintendent, or a local celebrity to come in and read a Pooh story.
  • Create a growing list of favorite “Poohisms,” like “Isn’t it funny how a bear likes honey?” Post them around the room.
