SITE REVIEW

August 2003

DisabilityInfo.gov
The government's one-stop location for information on disabilities.
Grade Level: Parents, Professional

http://www.disabilityinfo.gov/

CONTENT:
Disability.gov is "the comprehensive Federal website of disability-related government resources."
AESTHETICS:
This well-designed site is attractive and user-friendly. It uses color and a few graphics to separate the blocks of text. The colors for each of the nine sections match the tabs in the navigation bar at the top of the front page.
ORGANIZATION:
The site features a tabbed navigation bar at the top of the page that leads to the nine major sections of the site. Each of the sections has a subcategory list on the left of the pages. There is also an onsite search tool and a bottom navigation menu.
REVIEW:
This site was designed for people with disabilities, their families, employers, and the general public. It is a one-stop source of information organized in nine broad categories: employment, education, housing, transportation, health, income support, technology, community life, and civil rights. Each section offers a wide variety of articles, press releases, and grant opportunities. Appropriately enough, the site creators have paid attention to the needs of those with disabilities. The pages are available in "High Contrast, default, and (coming soon) print." Pages also use only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified "text size" option in visual browsers.
