Mother Roni Dean-Burren used Facebook last week to express concern over how her son's "Word Geography" textbook ,a McGraw-Hill product, described African slaves as "workers" and "immigrants.

The post received national attention after a subsequent video of the post received 1.4 million views, according to CNN, and McGraw-Hill took note.

"The Atlantic slave trade brought millions of workers ... notice the nuanced language there. Workers implies wages ... yes?" Dean-Burren wrote about the word choice, according to CNN.

After reviewing the section of its textbook, McGraw-Hill agreed that the wording resulted in an inaccurate portrayal of history and stated it would be fixing the errors. As a result, the publishing company said on its Facebook page that it will be updating the textbook's online version immediately. As for the printed versions, it will make the changes available in the book's next edition.

"Still, some believe the changes aren't enough and are asking the publisher to recall existing versions of the book and replace copies for schools that can't afford to buy new books," said CNN.

"'Thanks for the gesture, but that doesn't help the school districts that can't afford to purchase new textbooks!Kids will continue to read the same incorrect & inconsiderate information for probably the next 5-10 years! There must be a better way!'" reads one comment on McGraw-Hill's Facebook post, according to the news source.

Dean-Burren says the textbook's language, which she calls "erasure" of history, was brought to her attention by her son, who is in ninth grade.

The controversy is just the latest of many over Texas textbooks, which "some say concede too much ground to conservative viewpoints on subjects such as climate change, religious liberty and slavery," CNN said.
