USE HYPERLINKS IN THE CLASSROOM

Put two or three hyperlinks in a Word document and save it to students' computers. Students now can click on each link to go to a Web site for research or activities! Internet scavenger hunts, WebQuests, and hotlists, as well as other teacher-created tools, begin with simple lists of links like these.

A hotlist is a list of Web site addresses (URLs) that are hyperlinked to the Web. To create a hotlist of resources for this Web search activity:

  • Open a new document in Word (File>New)
  • Type "Studying Mode, Median, and Mean" and center the title
  • Hit Enter.
  • Type the following instructions for students: "With a partner, click each link below and explore each linked site. Write three facts you learn, or three questions you have, about mode, median, and mean after exploring the site. Hand in your facts or questions at the end of class."
  • Hit Enter.
  • Type the URL for each of the Web sites below. Hit Enter after each URL.
