LEARN ABOUT THE WORLD AROUND US

Understanding other cultures can help promote tolerance. Students might

  • begin e-mail exchanges or Web projects that help build understanding of other cultures. Friendship Through Education, a K-12 e-mail program sponsored by UNICEF, has been promoted by President George W. Bush as a means of increasing understanding between the United States and predominately Muslim countries. Other possible e-mail exchanges include ePals and Intercultural E-Mail Classroom Connections.
  • learn about other cultures through such Web projects as the Global Grocery List Project, in which students and their families collect information about prices of basic food items and then compare those prices with others from around the world.
