• go to American States for a list of all 50 official state Web sites and then explore law enforcement and public safety links for their own state.
• look up information about local law enforcement and firefighters on city and regional Web sites, as well as at local newspaper sites.
• e-mail thanks to one of those departments.
• begin an e-mail exchange with local police or firefighters to answer student questions and increase student awareness.
