A TECHTORIAL

USING TRACKSTAR

After you've created a real TrackStar track -- one you want your students to use -- you'll also want to provide them with directions for using it. Type and print the following instructions and post them near your classroom computer or distribute them to students:

  • Log on to the Internet.
  • Type www.4teachers.org in the address bar and hit Enter.
Note: TrackStar's URL can be hard for students to remember; the www4Teachers route is faster and easier. For younger students, you might want to bookmark your track or put a shortcut to the track on the desktop.
  • Click the TrackStar icon in the yellow box on the right side of the www4Teachers page.
  • Type the Track ID number on the right side of the TrackStar page and click Go.
Note: The Track ID is the six-digit number assigned to the track when you created it. If you've forgotten that number, students can click by author, type your name in the box, and click Go.
  • Click View in Frames.
Note: On an older computer or on one with a very slow Internet connection, students should choose View in Text.
Depending on students' skills and ages, you'll also want to provide them with some instructions for using the Track, such as how to click on site links, where to find annotations, and so on.

That's it! Tracks are very self-directed, so let them explore.
