  • Many of you watch football, so you already know a lot about football!  Football can be a confusing sport for someone who has never watched it before.
  • There are two teams that play against each other and try to score the most points.
  • Football is a sport where there is a lot of pushing, shoving and crashing in to other players, so football players wear helmets and a lot of pads to keep themselves safe.
  • There is only one player who throws the ball.  That player is called the quarterback.  The other players either get the ball and run with it or they block the other team from getting to the player with the ball.
  • The players who run and try to catch the ball are called receivers.  The players who try to stop the other team are called defensive players.
  • When one team gets the football to the end of the field, they score 6 points.  They then get a chance to kick the ball through a goal post to score another point.
  • There are many rules about what the players can do to stop each other from scoring.  The rules help to keep the players safe and make the game fair and fun to play.
  • We are going to read about football.  I am going to give you a worksheet.  I will read to you about football.  Then, we are going to work together to answer the questions.
  • Does anyone have any questions?
