  • Butterflies are special because they look completely different as adults than they do when they are babies.
  • When people are adults, they are bigger than they were when they were babies, but what their body has is the same.  If you are born with two arms and two legs, then that is how many arms and legs you have as an adult.
  • A butterfly goes through so many changes from when they are a baby to when they are an adult.  This is called a life cycle.
  • A life cycle shows the changes that happen to a living thing as it moves through its life.
  • Raise your hand if you think you know the life cycle of a butterfly.
  • We are going to be looking at a worksheet that shows the life cycle of a butterfly.  (Hand out the worksheet and have the students look at the picture of the life cycle)
  • What do you notice about the life cycle of the butterfly?  (Allow the students to answer.)
