Main:

Say:

  • We know that Jackie Robinson was the first African American to play major league baseball.  He did not have an easy time because many people thought that he should not be playing baseball with white people.
  • Jackie Robinson did something that would never have been imagined before he did it.  It was something that he wanted to do, but it was difficult.
  • You just thought of some things that you would like to do, but you might think it is too difficult to do.
  • You are going to be writing a story about the thing that you would like to be the first person to do.
  • When you are writing your story, it is important to describe the thing that you would like to do.  If you want to be the first person to go to Mars, then describe exactly what you would like to do when you get there.
  • Write as many details as you can, including how you would feel while doing the thing that you chose.  When you are done, you will be sharing what you wrote.
  • Does anyone have any questions?

Feedback:

  • Who would like to share the story that you wrote?  (Allow the students to share.)
