Starter:

Say:

  • Have you ever imagined what it would be like to be at an event in the past?  (Allow the students to answer.)

Main:

Say:

  • Imagining that you are at an event in the past can be a lot of fun.  It would be so much fun to be able to experience past events.
  • One of the events that used to happen in the past was harvest parties.  Many families would get together when it was time to harvest food.  The men and older boys would harvest food while the women and children played, cooked and spent time together.
  • After the men and boys were finished harvesting for the day, everyone would have one large meal together.  After the meal, there might even be some music and dancing.
  • Often times people would play instruments together as a way to relax and unwind after a busy day.  Everyone else would sing along or dance.
  • It was a really big social event that people used to look forward to all year.
  • You are now going to be writing a story about what it would be like to be at a harvest party.  When you are writing your story, think about what you would see, what you would be thinking and feeling.  Write as many details as you can.  Then, you will be sharing what you wrote.
  • Does anyone have any questions?

Feedback:

Say:

  • Who would like to share the story that you wrote?  (Allow the students to share.)
