  • CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.5.3.d - Use concrete words and phrases and sensory details to convey experiences and events precisely Activating Strategy: Display word splash or pass out a copy to students and with partners have students brainstorm ideas about the topics that might be used in todays comic.  Discuss ideas brainstormed as a whole group

Materials:

Teaching Strategy: Hand out comic strip with requirements (comic strip for day 3)

Review the steps to writing a comic strip (1) Examine the pictures, 2) Think of some situations that could be taking place, 3) Name your characters). Discuss the requirements for the comic; give examples and reminders of what each of the requirements. Give students a highlighter so they can highlight each of the requirements within their comic

Summarizing Strategy: 5-3-1

  • Individually – Write 5 words or phrases to summarize today’s discussion
  • Collaborative Partners – Write 3 words or phrases
  • Table or Small Group – Choose 1 word or phrase
