CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.5.3.c - Use a variety of transitional words, phrases, and clauses to manage the sequence of events.

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.5.3.d - Use concrete words and phrases and sensory details to convey experiences and events precisely

Materials:

Activating Strategy: With partner students examine comic strip and list writing elements that are used.  As a whole group read and discuss the writing elements used with in the comic strip

Teaching Strategy: Hand out students comic strip with requirements

Review the steps to writing a comic strip (1) Examine the pictures, 2) Think of some situations that could be taking place, 3) Name your characters). Discuss the requirements for the comic; give examples and reminders of what each of the requirements. Give students a highlighter so they can highlight each of the requirements within their comic

Summarizing Strategy: Mix and Freeze-students walk around room with comic when you or music stops, students turn and read comic with student closest to them.  Do as many rounds as you see fit
