Childrens' book author Eric Carle was born on June 25, 1929. During his life time, Carle wrote and illustrated over 70 picture books. His best known work is probably The Hungry Caterpillar, which has selled over 44 million copies worldwide. The book, like many of his other works, feature colorful collages of creatures and things to create these collages, Carle would first paint tissue paper. Next, he would cut shapes out of the painted paper. After that, he would assemble the cutouts to form new things, like a bare or a ladybug.
