Ten Books to Celebrate Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is upon us, and what better way to spread love and kindness throughout the classroom than through books! Education World has curated a list of ten books teachers can read to their students around Valentine's Day. These books are filled with lessons about kindness, friendship, and surprises.

  1. The Night Before Valentine's Day by Natasha Wing: Amazon says: "All the kids are getting ready for the sweetest holiday of the year! Join in on all of the card-making fun, and then come along to school the next morning for a day of parties and games!"
  2. Llama Llama I Love You by Anna Dewdney: In this children's book, Amazon says, "a little llama shows his friends and family how much he loves them with heart-shaped cards and lots of hugs. What could be sweeter than Llama Llama on Valentine's Day?"
  3. Roses Are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink by Diane deGroat: Amazon says: "When Gilbert writes two not-so-nice valentines to his classmates, his prank quickly turns into pandemonium. But there's always time for a change of heart on Valentine's Day."
  4. Happy Valentine's Day, Mouse! by Laura Numeoff: Amazon says teachers and students can "join Mouse from If You Give a Mouse a Cookie as he celebrates Valentine's Day with all of the friends he loves."
  5. Pete the Cat: Valentine's Day is Cool by James Dean: In Pete the Cat: Valentine's Day is Cool, Amazon says: "Pete the Cat thinks Valentine's Day isn't cool . . . until he realizes how many special cats there are in his life! Pete works hard to make valentines for everyone, and it turns out to be the grooviest Valentine's Day ever. But what happens when he realizes he's forgotten to make a card for a very important cat?   9. Day It Rained Hearts by Felicia Bond: Amazon says: "One day it rains hearts, and Cornelia Augusta catches them. Each heart is special in its own way, and Cornelia Augusta knows exactly who to send them to."
  10. Oh, Valentine, We Lost Our Minds! by Dan Gutman: Amazon says: "It's the week of Valentine's Day, and A.J.'s class is getting a foreign exchange student! His name is Pierre, and he's from France. But what happens when Pierre challenges A.J. to a duel (or at least a thumb war) over Andrea?
