True Heroes

So often~ young people today worship rock stars and athletes~ and the mainstream media creates heroes out of people who sing well or are born into royalty.

While some of these stars have admirable qualities and their accomplishments noteworthy~ the true heroes of the world~ in my opinion~ are people like those caught in the horrendous events at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut~ where 26 people lost their lives.

Teachers~ like Victoria Soto~ and principals~ like Dawn Hochsprung~ are my true heroes.

As if not enough to work in a profession that is underpaid and overworked~ these individuals were faced with the most difficult of situations~ an evil that showed no mercy. And according toreports~ they died trying to protect those they teach and serve.

As a teacher~ I cant imagine the fear and pain they must have felt in their final minutes as they struggled for life~ and as they tried to help those innocent children. All I know is that these educators should be remembered for all timethat their lives and efforts should inspire us to become more.

If possible~ take a minute today to silently honor these heroes.
