A TECHTORIAL

SAVE AND PRINT

Decide if you want students to complete the coloring page on the computer or using crayons or colored pencils.

If you want to print the page, you're done! Save it and print it.

If you want students to color the butterfly on a computer, you'll need to save it as a template to ensure that students don't permanently alter the page. To do that:

  • Click File > Save As.
  • Change File Type (or Document Format on a Mac) to Template.
Watch out! Microsoft Word wants to save templates in a template folder that you probably never will find. Change the location where the file will be saved to My Documents, Desktop, or another easily accessible location.
  • Click Save. The file is ready for students to use!

You'll want to help younger students open the file. Also, make sure the drawing toolbar is open when the file is opened: Go to Tools > Customize, make sure the Drawing toolbar is checked, and then click OK.

The only tools students will need to complete the coloring page are the paint can and the color palette (both on the Drawing toolbar). Show them how to click the image, click the paint can, and a color.

When students have finished coloring, have them go to File > Save, type a new file name, and click OK.
