Tracking the Electoral Vote

DIRECTIONS: Your teacher has written the name of each state and Washington, D.C., on separate slips of paper. You will draw the names of two states from the box of slips. How many electoral votes do the two states you drew from the box get?

You can learn that at http://www.fec.gov/pages/elecvote.htm.

On an outline map of the United States, write the number of electoral votes each state gets on the map.

After Election Day, find the results of the voting in your two states. Share your states' results with your classmates, and they will share their states' results with you. Color states won by McCain/Palin with a red crayon and states won by Obama/Biden with a blue crayon. Use the completed color-key map to tally the number of electoral votes each candidate will receive.
