Google for Education, TES Partner to Bring Teachers Open Source Materials to Plan Virtual Reality Field Trips

Google for Education and digital education company TES announced they will be partnering to provide teachers access to digital resources that accompany Google Expeditions. For those unfamiliar, Google Expeditions is a highly anticipated pioneer program that allows teachers to take students on virtual field trips.

"Starting today, teachers who access a new Google portal on the tes.com marketplace at tes.com/Google will find brand new lessons showing how to use Google Expeditions virtual reality field trips in the classroom, Google’s training center, and featured teachers who are sharing their lessons with their peers through the TES.com global network” said TES in a statement.

Available resources include aligned lesson plans to Google Expedition field trip sites to provide educators stepping stones as they begin to integrate virtual reality into the classroom.

One resource, for example, is a mini-research project on World War II that corresponds to Expedition activities and guiding questions. Another plus? Some lessons, like this one, are even aligned to the Common Core Standards.

Not to mention that resources such as these are completely free after joining TES’ online community, which is over 8 million teachers strong. As it stands, TES already boasts 1 million resource downloads from its global marketplace on a daily basis.

The partnership also provides resources for teachers to best use Google Classroom’s learning tools and apps, but as interest in virtual reality steadily increases, word of free Expedition resources is likely to steal the show.

After all, according to a recent survey, one in ten teachers would like to see more virtual reality in the classroom

Science teacher Heidi Bernasconi mimics that sentiment in TES’ statement: "I feel incredibly lucky to be able to share my classroom-tested lessons with other teachers around the world through tes.com, giving them some practical guidance as they start to experiment with this new technology. Take your kids where a school bus can't. Be your own Ms. Frizzle!”
