VTech & LeapFrog, Two Big Names in Child Learning, Join Forces After Troublesome Times

VTech has announced that it will be acquiring LeapFrog, a similarly big name in educational games and technology.

"On one hand, the move will mark a significant consolidation in the educational games and technology space, but perhaps more importantly for VTech officials, it may add consumer goodwill at a time when the company could use it,” said Fortune.com.

VTech is still reeling from a massive security breach in its app store that compromised the personal information of 6.4 million children. As security concerns over children’s information continues to grow with the advent of edtech, this kind of breach is a significant kind of bad press.

VTech was forced to shutdown several of its websites after the breach, and its Learning Lodge app store didn’t go live again until late January.

LeapFrog, which experienced success in the early-to-mid 2000s, recorded its lowest year of sales last year since before going public in 2002, said Fortune.com.

LeapFrog is hoping working with VTech will give it the opportunity to boost sales while VTech is hoping to acquire the good faith that LeapFrog is earned after its recent bout of troubles.
