App Review: 'Math Puppy' (iPad/iPhone)

App Name: Math Puppy – Bingo Challenge Educational Game for Kids HD (iPad/iPhone)

Cost: Free

What does it promise? The Math Puppy app is a very simple app geared towards elementary math learning. It promises an effective, engaging and easy way for students to practice math problems all while competing in bingo.

“Your child will be able to enjoy a constructive, supportive, interactive fun filled environment while mastering the arts of basic math,” according to the iTunes breakdown of the game.

Does it deliver? After playing Math Puppy, the one thing that should be noted first is that it’s very simple. In no way does it pose continuous challenges. That being said it is geared towards younger students making it perfect for a targeted group. It offers two gams including the most obvious Bingo. No matter what age you are Bingo is always a pretty fun game and it should keep students engaged. Students must complete math problems in order to complete a row or column to win the game. It’s fairly simple, very easy to use and you’re also able to pick a puppy character adding a cute dimension to the game.

Can I use it in the classroom? It’s not recommended to use this app in the classroom unless of course, the educator has a projector. A teacher would be able to project the game onto the screen and use the help of their students to complete the columns and rows. It’s a practice tool that could prepare young students for upcoming tests.
