MakerBot Starter Lab to Introduce 3D Screen Printing to Educational Facilities

MakerBot, a leading Next Industrial Revolution company, is aiming to bring 3D printing capabilities to educational facilities for K-12 with the MakerBot Starter Lab.

“MakerBot, a global leader in desktop 3D printing, today announced its newest offering, the MakerBot Starter Lab, to the marketplace, designed to get a school or organization’s 3D printing capabilities up and running quickly and efficiently to accelerate innovation among its users,” according to a BusinessWire press release.

The company has designed the product to prepare students to be “more college and career ready,” as Frank Alfano, acting CEO of MakerBot explains. 3D printing is the process of making a three-dimensional object from a digital makeup using layers of material. This lab will help students explore and take part in the process by providing them with, MakerBot Replicator 3D Printers, a MakerBot Digitizer Desktop 3D Scanner, MakerBot MakerCare Protection Plans for all hardware, a supply of parts and materials, and a custom-tailored, on-site MakerBot Learning workshop.

“When computer labs first started going into schools, educators noticed a transformation taking place with students’ enthusiasm and interest in learning,” said Alfano in the BusinessWire release. “We see that same type of excitement in students, faculty and the community when they have access to MakerBot 3D printing products in schools.”

MakerBot believes that by putting students in a situation where they can experience cutting edge technology of the future, it will better prepare them for a future workforce built around it. The company offers the Starter Lab, containing tools and resources both useful to students and educators to K-12 schools and promises a “world-class science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) education.”

With the growing number of technological advancements and the implementation of higher level technology in today’s workforce, having these tools available in the classroom help give students the preparation they need to take it on without feeling overwhelmed.
