Video Roundups: Presidents Day

When it comes to teaching about Presidents Day, there are plenty of resources teachers can use in their classrooms. One way to celebrate our U.S. Presidents can be through viewing and discussing videos. Education World has gathered six biographies that educators can show their students. In addition to each video we include a suggested grade level and "cool factor."

 

George Washington

Description: Students will learn about our first president, George Washington, and the impact he had on our country during the American Revolution. 

Cool Factor: Moderate. The video is short, but has valuable information students can take about the beginning of our country. 

 

The Gettysburg Address

Grade Level: 8-12

Run Time: 1:27

Description: With this video, students will learn about one of the most influential presidents of all time, Abraham Lincoln. They will also learn about one of his most famous speeches, "The Gettysberg Address."

Cool Factor: Moderate. It is also a shorter video, but has plenty of information about Lincoln's childhood and impact he had on civil rights and the Civil War. 

 

 

John F. Kennedy

Description: Students will learn all about the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy. 

Cool Factor: High. This is an interesting video covering all aspects of President Kennedy, including his love affairs and assassination. Definitely a film for a higher grade level. 

 

Bill Clinton

Description: Students will learn about the life of Bill Clinton including his presidency, successes, and weaknesses. 

Cool Factor: Moderate. It's a short video, but gets straight to the point about his successes and failures during his presidency. It includes the Monica Lewinsky scandal and his impeachment. 

 

 

George W. Bush

Description: In this video, students will learn about Bush's presidency during 9/11 and his initiation of the Iraq War. 

Cool Factor: Moderate. There are some interesting background facts about his life, but also some insight on his response to 9/11 and the Iraq War. 

 

 

Barack Obama

Description: Students will learn about the current President of the United States, Barack Obama. 

Cool Factor: Moderate. Students will be interested to learn about the life of the president they hear about today in the news and in their home.
