Sarah Manchester of Silver Spring, Maryland is a math teacher with a mind for word games and an improbable amount of luck. Manchester is the third contestant in Wheel of Fortune history to win the $1 million grand prize on the enduring television game show.
“I assessed that the probability was low, but even unlikely events sometimes happen,” said Manchester on the program.
Manchester won her $1,017,490 during the program which aired Wednesday, September 17, as part of the show’s “Teacher’s Week” theme. The winning bonus round puzzle was “Loud Laughter,” which Manchester solved with ease, and she expelled a joyous burst of such laughter after host Pat Sajak revealed that she won the life-changing prize.
According to an ABC 7 report, Manchester is the coach of the math team at Tacoma Park Middle School, the same school that she attended as a student.
Now in season 32, Wheel of Fortune’s “Teacher’s Week” will continue through Friday.
