A student at Schenectady High School in New York wanted to make his mark during his last year of high school. Instead of a normal yearbook photo, Draven Rodriguez decided to pose with his cat, Mr. Bigglesworth, in front of a background of laser beams. 

"When people look at it, they will know that was me," Rodriquez said in an article in the Daily Gazette, a local newspaper. “I’m a little out there and a little tongue-in-cheek. Cats and lasers ... sarcastic. It’s so outlandish and ridiculous.”

Rodriguez posted the photo on his Instagram account, and it became a hit. School District Spokeswoman Karen Corona said when it comes to the photo, it can go in the yearbook, but not in the portrait section. 

"That will not appear in the portrait section," she said. "There are other places in the yearbook where those photos can be placed. It doesn't mean the photo won't be in the yearbook. It just means it won't be in the section where the more professional photos are." It's unclear whether or not Corona's statement is an official denial Rodriguez's photo as a yearbook portrait.

In fact, Rodriguez's petition page currently shows more than 3,400 people have signed their names in support of his effort to have the picture published. Media outlets who've covered Rodriguez's plight include Jezebel, Time, the Huffington Post, E! Online and many others. Rodriguez said he wanted to be remembered by his classmates years later. Well, if he wanted attention right now, he's received a good amount of it.
