Cloud technology in education is "sky high" in classrooms throughout the nation. 

According to a new report on the future of technology in schools by MarketsandMarkets, the cloud computing in education will rise to $12.4 billion by 2019, more than double of this year's $5.1 billion, said an article on MarketsandMarkets.com.

In recent years, there has been a significant growth in the education sector. Educational institutions have become highly dependent on Information Technology (IT) to meet their business requirements. Procuring and maintaining an extensive range of hardware and software entail substantial and ongoing investments. Technology in education has played a significant role in enabling students and educators to interact with one another. Thus, educational institutions have been under constant pressure to offer reasonably priced services and tools, which is driving the global cloud computing in education market.

An article on EdTechMagazine.com also looks at this estimation, and said the "cloud model has proved to be flexible and efficient for schools, driving down the costs and maintenance traditionally associated with on-premises networks. The collaborative nature of the technology also makes sense for educators, who often share data and work together on projects." EducationWorld recently reported, students may learn more when their teachers work together. 

While cloud computing can streamline the use of software and data, privacy concerns exist for some. It's unknown what best practices districts should adopt to ensure their teachers' and students' safety, although some locations have required private clouds to be created and utilized.
