Reporters Share Sounds from First Day of School

Sounds from the first day of school in Texas, Tennessee, New York, Washington and other locations are shared. Reporters from NPR affiliates found out what children are learning and what adults are worried about for the beginning of the year. Even teachers sometimes have trepidation.

This All Things Considered news story is a reminder that the entire nation has been or will be sharing in the common experience of surviving “opening day.” In these recordings, teachers experience surprise technology glitches, give pep talks and loudly sing the ABCs. At one school, students participate in a hot air balloon launch and learn a little science along the way.
