New App Offers Users Chance to Read With Others

New App Offers Users to Read With Loved Ones In Different Locations

Cricket Media, an education media company and global learning network, announced the launch of a new app, Story Bug, that shares the experience of reading with someone els.e across the room, or across the globe

The app allows people in different locations the opportunity to video chat, socialize and bond while reading, according to the company's recent press release. Story Bug is powered by technology from Kindoma, a creator of communication apps focused on connecting families.

"We are thrilled to introduce the new Story Bug app for iOS," said Katya Andresen, CEO, Cricket Media. "Family members and friends have long turned to Cricket Media and our award winning library to entertain, enlighten and inspire children. Now with Story Bug, kids and their loved ones have a wonderful way to connect and come together to share the experience of reading our content whether they are in different rooms, different towns or different countries."

Users of the Story Bug app see and hear each other while viewing the same digital book. They also share controls for turning pages and interacting with the content. Story Bug users can choose from a customizable library of digital books for children for young readers. Early development concepts and subjects such as counting, rhyming, animals, colors, riddles are covered in the content--which does skew young but also includes some books for children up to age 9.

Readers may know Cricket Media from the well loved children's magazine, Cricket. EducationWorld downloaded the app and recommends that teachers or parents download it for tablets rather than smartphones, since the layout makes stories somewhat challenging to read on smaller screens. Story Bug could end up being a good supplement to classroom libraries for independent and paired reading time.

Story Bug is free for users, two books come free upon download. App owners may subscribe to access dozens of other books, with more added each month, for $4.99 per month. Individual titles are also available for purchase at $2.99 each. It's currently unknown whether or not Cricket Media will offer more extensive app licenses to educational institutions.
