How do we save public education?
Arthur Camins, director of the Center for Innovation and Engineering and Science Education at the Stevens Institute of Technology offers a successful campaign highlighting nine steps teachers and administrators can take in order to save public education. The first of nine steps is to teach for future learning.
"It is certain that our children will function as adults in a world substantially different from the one in which they were born," he said. "Therefore, while knowing what is now known is vital, learning how to learn must be the primary goal. Therefore, we must abandon test performance as a teaching goal and instead embrace learning from error and iterative improvement. Let’s also move away from teaching to get correct answers and toward answering personally and socially meaningful questions."
