Boston Schools Go 'Too Far' With Surveillance of School Buses

School buses are a known "hot spot" for bullying. In response, Boston's school department equipped its 750 yellow school buses with microphones and cameras to help thwart bullying and other misbehaviors. The department, however, has offered little to no evidence that these actions are required. 

According to an opinion article in The Boston Globe, Massachusetts law prohibits audio recordings, and the city's decision to place these cameras infringes on civil liberties and causes privacy concerns. 

"We're indoctrinating children to believe that everythnig they say and do will be recorded by some faceless entity behind glass," said Kade Crockford, director of the Technology for Liberty project at the American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts.
